Alvi Joensen

Guitarist & Composer

“Connecting the inherited with the unexplored.”

Born in the Faroe Islands and based in Malmö, Alvi Joensen is a guitarist and composer whose artistry moves between musical heritage and new creation.

His work encompasses the great guitar repertoire, forgotten works and contemporary music, with a particular dedication to collaborating with living composers and bringing new music to the concert stage. He has performed across the Nordic countries and beyond, both as a soloist and chamber musician.

A defining part of his artistic identity is his Faroese heritage. The North Atlantic landscape — its vastness, isolation and ever-changing relationship between land, sea and sky — remains an important point of reference in his musical world.

Through performance, composition and collaboration, Joensen seeks to connect the inherited with the unexplored, establishing a distinctly Faroese voice within the contemporary Nordic classical scene.
